1. What This Policy Covers
This policy explains how Licinza uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies (such as localStorage) when you use our website and dashboards. It's separate from our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle personal data more broadly.
2. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser. We also use similar browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) for some of the same purposes — this policy treats both the same way, since UK cookie law (PECR) applies to both.
3. Strictly Necessary — Always On
These keep the platform working and can't be switched off: staying signed in, keeping your place in a multi-step form you've started (like an onboarding application), and basic security/error-recovery mechanisms. We don't ask for consent for these because the law doesn't require it for technology that's essential to a service you've actively requested — but we also don't use this category for anything beyond that.
4. Functional — Optional
Used for optional conveniences, mainly Google Maps and address autocomplete when you're entering a pickup location or viewing an instructor's coverage area. If you don't allow this category, you can still type an address manually — nothing stops working, it's just less automated. Your theme preference (light/dark) is stored locally regardless, as it carries no privacy risk, but address-related map features specifically wait for your consent.
5. Analytics — Optional
We use Google Analytics (GA4), delivered through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it — things like which pages are visited and how people navigate the site. We don't send Google your name, email, or any other directly identifying information. Google Tag Manager itself is not loaded in your browser at all until you allow this category (or Marketing) — not even in a cookieless or anonymous form. Allowing this sets Google's "analytics_storage" signal to granted; declining keeps it denied and Google Tag Manager stays unloaded.
6. Marketing — Optional
Reserved for advertising and marketing measurement, also delivered through Google Tag Manager once configured. Allowing this sets Google's "ad_storage", "ad_user_data" and "ad_personalization" signals to granted; declining keeps them denied. Like Analytics, Google Tag Manager is not loaded until you allow this category or Analytics.
7. Google Maps
We use the Google Maps platform for address entry and location display. We classify this as Functional, not Strictly Necessary — even though it's a useful feature, every place we use it has a manual text-entry fallback, so the underlying service (booking a lesson, for example) doesn't depend on it. The Maps script is only loaded after you've granted Functional consent. When loaded, Google may set its own cookies as part of operating that service — as a third-party service, those are governed by Google's own privacy and cookie practices, not ours, and we can't control or delete them from our side once set.
8. Stripe (Payments)
When you actively choose to pay for something — a lesson, a package — we use Stripe to process that payment securely via an embedded checkout. Stripe sets its own cookies as part of fraud prevention and completing that transaction. We treat these as Strictly Necessary for the specific purchase you've initiated, not as optional marketing or analytics technology, so they aren't gated behind the Functional/Analytics/Marketing choices above. Stripe only loads when you open a payment flow — never in the background.
9. Managing Your Preferences
You can review or change your cookie preferences at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the website footer, or from the Cookie Settings option in your dashboard's account settings area. Changes take effect immediately.
10. Withdrawing Consent
Withdrawing consent switches off the optional categories you'd previously allowed and stops us loading the related optional technology going forward. We cannot guarantee removal of cookies already set by third-party services (like Google) before withdrawal, since browsers don't allow one website to delete another website's cookies — only that service's own settings or your browser's own cookie controls can do that.
11. How Long We Remember Your Choice
Your preference is stored in your browser and remembered for up to 12 months, or until you change it, or until we materially change this policy or the categories — any of those will show you the choice again.
12. This Is Different From Marketing Email Consent
If you've created a Licinza account, the marketing-email opt-in you saw during signup is a separate choice, about whether we can email you — it's not the same as the cookie categories on this page, and changing one doesn't change the other.
Change Your Preferences
You can open the cookie preferences panel right now and change your choice.
